Looks like actor Shah Rukh Khan has been passionately following the sports events at the Tokyo Olympics. He’s been actively cheering and supporting the Indian women’s as well as men’s hockey team.
It was evident from his tweet that he was disappointed when the Indian women’s hockey team lost against Great Britain in the bronze medal match.
Despite the loss, Shah Rukh Khan decided to lift the morale of the players by writing an uplifting tweet.
He tweeted, “Heartbreak!!! But all reasons to hold our heads high. Well played Indian Women’s Hockey Team. You all inspired everyone in India. That itself is a victory.”
This was not the only time King Khan had cheered and supported the women’s hockey team.
When the women’s team made it to the semi-finals at Tokyo Olympics Shah Rukh tweeted, “Haan haan no problem. Just bring some Gold on your way back….for a billion family members. This time Dhanteras is also on 2nd Nov. From: Ex-coach Kabir Khan.”
Kabir Khan refers to the coach whose character Shah Rukh Khan had portrayed in the superhit film Chak De! India.
In the sports drama film, Indian coach Kabir Khan is in charge of 16 girls from different regions of India. He realizes that the women have a lot of differences and if he desires to make the team win, he has to first erase their differences with each other.
The film also explored topics such as feminism, racial and religious prejudice, and sexism.
It received amazing reviews both nationally and internationally. Sudhish Kamath of The Hindu wrote, “At another level, Chak De is about women's liberation. It is one of the best feminist films of our times.”
Rajeev Masand of CNN-IBN gave the film four out of five stars, saying “Chak De's ... a winner all the way. It was said that the film changed the mood of India and it went on to receive numerous awards such as the National Film Award for Best Popular Film Providing Wholesome Entertainment.
After the Indian men's hockey team's bronze medal win earlier this week, the actor wrote, "Wow!! Indian Men’s Hockey Team Congratulations. Resilience and skill at its peak. What an exciting match.”
It is truly heartwarming to witness how actors like Shah Rukh Khan are keeping the Olympic fever and the spirit of sport alive by rooting for Indian players. Cheers to their sportsmanship!
