Amitabh Bachchan made his debut with the film ‘Saat Hindustani’ albeit his role as a doctor who had a negative perception towards life in the film ‘Anand’ bagged him the Filmfare Best Supporting Actor award. He went on to feature in several other films like ‘Guddi’, ‘Parwana’ and so on however they never did well. Despite numerous failures, it was not long before things changed for the ‘Angry Young Man.’
It was screenwriters Salim-Javed who discovered Mr. Bachchan and recognized his true talent which many people in the industry failed to discover. He perfectly fitted the role of the ‘Angry Young Man’ in Zanjeer, the idea of which was created by Salim Khan. Salim Javed defined Amitabh as an “exceptional, a genius actor who was in films that weren't good.”
Many actors turned down the role of the ‘Angry Young Man’ as the ‘romantic hero image’ was the “in thing” during that period however Amitabh was brave enough to take up the role and break the stereotype. He not only did justice to the ‘Angry Young Persona’, but the movie also went on to become the highest-grossing film of that year. This was the turning point in the icon’s acting career and the rest, as they say, is history.
