Legendary Bollywood actor Amitabh Bachchan turns 80 today! It is an occasion for celebration especially for the Indian film fraternity and the people who know the star closely. 

Without a doubt Big B is one of the finest actors in the history of Indian cinema. French actor Francois Truffaut once called him a “one man industry.”

We can confidently say that there has been none like Big B in the industry so far!

Over the years fans have been enamoured with his acting skills, charm and his sleek personality. 

Be it Sholay, Deewar, Amar Akbar Anthony or the recent Paa, Runway 34 or 102 Not Out, the actor doesn’t fail to captivate audiences to this day. Thanks to his dynamic persona!  

It is difficult to believe that at the age of 30  Amitabh had 12 flops and two hits. It was duo Salim-Javed who discovered Amitabh Bachchan and insisted that he play the role of the “Angry Young Man” in the  film ‘Zanjeer.’ This film was a game changer for the struggling actor.

Many actors turned down this role as the protagonist had to portray the “angry young man” image which was opposed to the popular “romantic hero image” which was the “in thing” during that period.

Big B took up the role and as destiny would have it, the film  turned out to be a  superhit. ‘Zanjeer’ became one of the highest grossing films of that year and there was no turning back for the actor. 

Mr Bachchan impressed the audience by playing diverse roles. His comic timing has been applauded especially in the recent film ‘Piku’ where he plays a cranky old father. 

Famous critic Rajeev Masand wrote on his website, "Bachchan is pretty terrific as Bhashkor, who reminds you of that oddball uncle that you nevertheless have a soft spot for. He bickers with the maids, harrows his hapless helper, and expects that Piku stay unmarried so she can attend to him. At one point, to ward off a possible suitor, he casually mentions that his daughter isn't a virgin; that she's financially independent and sexually independent too. Bachchan embraces the character's many idiosyncrasies, never once slipping into caricature while all along delivering big laughs thanks to his spot-on comic timing.
