Whoopi Goldberg Lands in Controversy for The Holocaust Remarks

Actress and comedian Whoopi Goldberg has been suspended from an American talk show for remarking that the Holocaust involved two groups of white people.

The actress told in ABC’s ‘The View’ that the holocaust was not about race but it was about inhumanity.

ABC News President Kim Godwin wrote to her staff on Tuesday saying, “Effective immediately, I am suspending Whoopi Goldberg for two weeks for her wrong and hurtful comments.”

"While Whoopi has apologized, I've asked her to take time to reflect and learn about the impact of her comments.”

"The entire ABC News organization stands in solidarity with our Jewish colleagues, friends, family and communities.”

“These decisions are never easy, but necessary.”

Whoopi however regrets her comments and has already issued her third apology.

She apologized in a note posted on Twitter on Monday and she opened up ‘The View’ on Tuesday offering yet another apology.

"Yesterday on our show, I misspoke. I tweeted about it last night but I want you to hear it from me directly," the actor said.

“I said something that I feel a responsibility for not leaving unexamined, because my words upset so many people, which was never my intention. I understand why now, and for that I am deeply, deeply grateful because the information I got was really helpful, and it helped me understand some different things."

She further said, “I said the Holocaust wasn't about race and was instead about man's inhumanity to man.”

“But it is indeed about race because Hitler and the Nazis considered Jews to be an inferior race.”

“Now, words matter, and mine are no exception. I regret my comments and I stand corrected. I also stand with the Jewish people.”

This is not the first time that Goldberg has landed in controversy. In 2009 she remarked that Roman Polanski was not guilty of rape, a comment which she later clarified. She also defended Bill Cosby while he faced sexual assault accusations.

ABC staffers and Disney Network Executives believe that Whoopi went too far this time and will not recover from this easily.
