Tom Cruise Makes an Impressive Entry at Cannes Film Festival; Receives The Palme d'Or

Tom Cruise is the talk of the Cannes Film Festival after he made an impressive entry at the event.

The star is in Cannes for the premiere of his film Top Gun: Maverick in which audiences will see him return as Capt Pete ‘Maverick” Mitchell.

French fighter jets soared in the sky when the Top Gun star made an appearance on the red carpet.

Red and blue smoke emerged from the jets to represent the colour of the french flag.

Top Gun: Maverick director Joseph Kosinski, Producer Jerry Bruckheimer and co-stars Glen Powell, Jennifer Connelly, Jon Hamm, Miles Teller and the rest of the cast of the film made their red carpet debut at the Film Festival along with Cruise.

The actor who was dressed in a black suit later spent time posing for pictures and signing autographs for fans while others screamed and yelled to catch a glimpse of the star.

Ahead of the movie’s screening Tom said, “I'm gonna take this all in; I'm never gonna forget this evening and I feel very grateful and very blessed.”

"Thank you all for being here. Thank you for this time. We're here for you — I make these movies for all of you, and I feel very blessed to be able to do what I do."

What’s more is that the star got a 6 minute standing ovation at the screening of his action film Top Gun: Maverick which moved him to tears.

He was bestowed with the honorary Palme d'Or at the screening of his action film on Wednesday.

He was almost speechless at the honour and reacted to it with a simple ‘wow.’

During a tribute prior to the movie’s premiere on Wednesday the actor said that he never considered releasing his film via a streaming platform.

"That was not going to happen, ever," he told the audience before the premiere.

“I make movies for the big screen. Cinema is my love, my passion. I always go to movies when they come out. I'll put my cap on and sit in the audience with everyone.”

Cruise was last seen in Cannes along with his former wife Nicole Kidman for his film ‘Far and Away’ in 1992

Top Gun: Maverick hits theatres on May 27.
