Paris is gearing up for the closing ceremony of the Olympics on August 11. Despite the controversial opening ceremony, sports enthusiasts are eager to witness what the closing ceremony would be all about.
The Olympics’ closing ceremony is set to take place at the Stade de France at 3 p.m. EDT. The event will be live streamed on NBC and Peacock.
The US media has reported that Hollywood icon Tom Cruise will perform a spectacular action-packed stunt for the audience. A clip will be featured showing Tom Cruise skydiving to the Hollywood sign, suggestive of the next Olympics, to be held in Los Angeles.
This is not the first that Tom Cruise has been part of the Olympics. He carried the torch through LA for the 2004 games in Athens too.
There will be the extinguishing of the Olympic flame and the symbolic handover of the Olympic flag to Los Angeles.
Jimmy Fallon of ‘The Tonight Show’ fame will co-host the show with veteran sports reporter Mike Tirico. There are unconfirmed reports that Beyonce will be performing at the event too.
There would be 100 acrobats, aerial performers, gymnasts and many other artists. There will be a traditional parade of flags and athletes, a few speeches and the final medal presentation ceremony for the women’s marathon who would have performed earlier in the day.
In contrast to the opening ceremony, the closing ceremony will be shorter. It will be more traditional and have some darker elements as compared to the opening ceremony that tried to depict joyful themes. Creative Artist Thomas Jolly explains that the event titled ‘Records’ will be a combination of “wonder” and “dystopia.”
