The 76th Annual Emmy Awards Was Held at Peacock Theatre in Los Angeles, Period Epic ‘Shogun’ Wins 18 Awards
The annual 76th Emmy Awards was held in Los Angeles. ‘Shogun’ was the highlight of the event, winning eighteen awards.
The 76th Primetime Emmy Awards was held on September 16 (IST) at Peacock Theater in downtown Los Angeles.
The grand event was hosted by father and son duo Eugene and Dan Levy.
Stars who presented the awards to winners included: Billy Crystal, Viola Davis, Selena Gomez, Steve Martin, Maya Rudolph and Martin Sheen.
‘Hacks’, the series about two female comedians from different generations won the Emmy for best comedy series.
The FX period epic ‘Shogun’ was the biggest winner ! It won the Emmy for best drama. Last weekend it won 14 Creative Arts Emmys thus creating a record for becoming a show to win the most Emmys in a single year. At the award ceremony, ‘Shogun’ won a whopping 18 awards.
‘Shogun’ is set in seventeenth century Japan. The story is about an English sailor John Blackthorne played by Cosmo Jarvis who gets caught up in a political conflict involving shrewd Lord Toranaga (Sanada) and his translator, Lady Mariko (Sawai).
Anna Sawai won the best actress in a drama for ‘Shogun’ while Hiroyuki Sanada won the best actor in drama series. This also made Hiroyuki Sanada the first Japanese actor to win an acting award from the TV Academy for a performance not in English.
