Andy Samberg and Sandra Oh’s Monologue is Humorous in the 76th Annual Golden Globe Awards

On Sunday night Andy Samberg and Sandra Oh kicked off the 76th Annual Golden Globe Awards at ‘The Beverly Hilton Ballroom’. The event was different in the sense that unlike previous ceremonies that tend to become too political, the hosts of this event stuck to jokes and making fun of other famous celebrities. In the opening segment, Andy stated, “We are going to have some fun, give out some awards and one lucky audience member will host the Oscars.”

The cheeky hosts defined themselves as the “two nicest people in show business” and the "the only two people left in Hollywood who haven't gotten in trouble for saying something offensive." They even started calling out celebrities in the audience and complimented them albeit the compliments sounded more as funny insults. "Hey, Bradley Cooper - you are hot” Sandra yelled from the stage but with a very serious expression on her face.

Speaking of Bradley Cooper of ‘A Star Is Born’ Sandra said that there could be a hundred people in the room and 99 don’t believe in you, you just need one to believe in you and that was Bradley Cooper.” Bradley who was seated next to his co-star Lady Gaga was all smiles hearing these uplifting words about him and Lady Gaga responded: “That’s true!”

When the co-hosts saw Jim Carrey seated in the movies section even though he was nominated for the television show ‘Kidding’, the pair asked him to move. “We’re gonna have to ask you to vacate the movies section and go sit with the TV folk,” Samberg told the actor. Carrey replied back, “Should I take my dinner too? I wouldn’t want to leave any of my DNA in the film section.”

After all the bantering on celebrities and movies Sandra Oh did become a bit emotional and teary-eyed while concluding the monologue when she said, “But if I could take a moment here, in all honesty, I said yes to the fear of being on this stage tonight, because I wanted to be here to look out into this audience and witness this moment of change, and I'm not fooling myself. Next year could be different, it probably will be, but right now this moment is real. Trust me, it is real. Because I see you. And I see you. All these faces of change, and now so will everyone else."

Coming to the winners of the evening, ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’ won the Best Motion Picture-Drama while Rami Malek who played Freddie Mercury in the flick won the best actor award. Best performance by an actress in a motion picture-drama went to Glenn Close for ‘The Wife.’

What many observers found surprising was that even though ‘A Star Is Born’ was nominated in five categories, it only won one award for ‘Best Song.’ The hostess of the evening Sandra Oh was presented the best actress award for TV Series-Drama ‘Killing Eve’ while Richard Madden was presented the best actor award in the same category. The 76th Golden Globes award was an eventful night and the co-hosts revealed to PEOPLE that they were really excited to work with each other, in fact, Sandra revealed that there was no way she would have done this without Andy.
