Srilankan Cricketer Made History by Scoring Double Hundreds in Two Innings

Sri Lankan batsman Angelo Perera has created history on Tuesday by achieving a rarest of rare feat in the first-class cricket, when the 28-year-old cricketer scored two double hundreds in a single match. The match was played between Nondescripts Cricket Club (NCC) and Sinhalese Sports Club (SSC), where Perera achieved the remarkable feat to enter world record.

In the first inning, the skipper of Sinhalese Sports Club scored 201 runs off 203 deliveries from his side, followed by another double hundred and that is 231 off 268 balls in the second innings thereby achieving the milestone of two back to back double centuries in a single first-class match. Inspite of his heroic effort on the field, the match ended in a draw.

In the past couple of years, a number of surprising records have been made in the first-class cricket. But in the history of cricket, there has been only one instance when a batsman has achieved the feat of scoring two double hundreds in a single game. It was in the year 1938, Arthur Fagg of England had managed the feat for Kent while playing against Essex at Colchester in an English County game, becoming the first batsman in the world to achieve the astounding feat.

Angelo Perera has displayed a great resilience against a dangerous bowling attack from the bowlers comprising of Sri Lanka former international bowlers. Angelo Perera smashed a total of 40 boundaries and four sixes to reach the total score of 432 runs in two innings for his team. Now, he is the only batsman in the Sri Lankan domestic circuit with two double centuries under his belt this season.

Angelo Perera made his international debut in March 2013 for Sri Lanka against Bangladesh in a T20 game in Pallekele. But his international career graph soon started to fall downward after unimpressive performances as a batsman.

So far Angelo Perera has played four ODIs and two T20 Internationals for Sri Lanka. He played his maiden ODI against South Africa in Pallekele in 2013. Among his four ODIs, the last one was played against Australia in Dambulla in the year 2016. Besides, he played two T20 International matches against Bangladesh. In total, Perera has played 97 first-class matches in his career and has scored 6941 runs including 18 hundreds and 33 fifties.

In his last four ODI games, Angelo Perera has managed to score only 8 runs at a very disappointing average of 4.00. In two T20 International match against Bangladesh, he scored 4 runs and thus he is out of the national team. However, his recent heroic performance in the domestic circuit will no doubt ensure his glorious come back in the national team anytime soon.
