Shabana Azmi Is Stable; Good Wishes Pour in From Friends and Family
The actress was first admitted to MGM Hospital in Navi Mumbai and later to Mumbai’s Kokilaben Hospital. Her condition is now said to be stable. She has suffered a head injury and a slight damage to her backbone.
The news of actress Shabana Azmi meeting up with an accident on the Pune-Mumbai express highway has come as a big blow to the world of Indian cinema. The mishap took place on January 19 at 3:30 pm near Khalapur. The Tata Safari SUV that rammed into the truck was completely smashed and beyond recognition. It is truly a miracle that the veteran actress survived such a serious mishap. Shabana’s husband Javed Akhtar who was in a separate car escaped with just minor injuries.

She has suffered a head injury and slight damage to her backbone. An FIR is lodged against Shabana Azmi’s driver for negligent driving. He’s been identified as Amlesh Yogendra Kamat. According to ANI, the police have registered a case under Sec 279 (Rash driving on public way) and 337 (causing hurt by act endangering life/personal safety of others) of IPC and sections of Motor Vehicles Act.
Photographs of Shabana’s family and close acquaintances visiting her at the hospital is doing the rounds on social media. Family members like Farhan Akhtar, Zoya Akhtar, and Shibani Dandekar appeared pretty disturbed in the circulating photographs.
Many personalities from Bollywood such as Tabu, Anil Kapoor with wife Sunita Kapoor, Tina Ambai and Shibani Dandekar were spotted near the hospital on Saturday night.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal wished the veteran actress a speedy recovery on Twitter. Bollywood personalities like Dia Mirza, Neena Gupta, Raveena Tandon also wished Shabana a speedy recovery. A video of Raj Thackeray visiting the actress at the hospital has emerged online. Fans and followers of the actress have passed on their good wishes on social media platforms.
Javed Akhtar told a website that the actress is doing much better now and all the reports that have emerged are positive. “Don’t worry. She is in the ICU but all the scan reports are positive. It seems there’s no serious harm done”, he said. We are glad that the actress’s condition is stable and hope that she makes a speedy recovery real soon.
Speaking of work, the actress would be seen in the upcoming movie ‘Sheer Qorma’ co-starring Divya Dutta and Swara Bhasker.
