Sex and the City Star Cynthia Nixon Announces Candidacy for NY Governor

Cynthia Nixon, from your favorite ‘Sex and the City’ announces her candidacy for New York Governor on Monday. Here’s how she thinks and aims at it.

 

Those who follow Cynthia Nixon are well aware that this ‘Sex and the City’ famed actress is not only a silver screen figure entertaining us at times. But, she’s an activist and very much vocal against social injustice. This “lifelong New Yorker”, as her Twitter bio says is now up for gubernatorial bid. Yes! On Monday she made it official on her Twitter handle along with a video:

Now her updated Twitter bio says, “Cynthia Nixon is a lifelong New Yorker, actor, and progressive advocate who is running for governor to fight for a better, more fair New York.”

In the video Cynthia Nixon shares her views on what are missing at present in society and what need to change. She has mentioned the issues like health care, mass incarceration, broken subways etc. Her motto is not to be any regular politician and run things the usual way but to work for people beyond the headlines and power.

This Primetime Emmy Award winner is seen active against sexual harassments and on her Twitter handle she had also shared a helpline number 800-656-HOPE (4673) and a site link http://RAINN.org/ThatsHarassment  for those in need. By running for the Governor of New York she aspires for change, “But something has to change. We want our government to work again,”.

 

This definitely throws a liberal challenge to the current Governor of New York, Andrew Cuomo. He has been in power since 2011.

 

In “the People’s State of Union” campaign in January, Cynthia said, “President Trump's first year in office has been a dark time for America. But the good news is this is still a democracy, and the people can hold their leaders accountable. It's time to take our government back.” This campaign was an alternative event to Donald Trump’s first State of the Union Speech.

Here Cynthia also mentioned, “If we've learned anything during this first year of the Trump presidency, it's that the cavalry isn't coming to save us. We ourselves are the cavalry.”, as published on CNN.

 

Cynthia Nixon, who is married to activist Christine Marinoni is also a mother three, and now she enters the political race to serve greater causes. In the press release it was said that she will be spending the coming weeks travelling. She’ll be visiting across the state and listening to its people.

Reportedly, her campaign will be handled by Rebecca Katz, Bill Hayers and Nicole Aro. While Katz will be her senior strategist, Nicole will look after the campaign as the manager.

 

Cynthia Nixon started her career in the 80s but it is the HBO series ‘Sex and the City’(1998-2004) that brought her under the much desired limelight. She portrayed the character of Miranda Hobbes in the series as a career-minded lawyer. Her character that fostered cynical views on men was later altered. Over the years Miranda Hobbes was shown getting softened. Eventually, she marries and gets pregnant as well.

 

Her character portrayal has been much stronger than the others in the series. And in reality too Cynthia Nixon is on way to strengthen herself and the state via her neo political venture for gubernatorial bid.
