An apartment complex in Bengaluru has been declared a containment zone after 10 residents have been tested positive for coronavirus.
This alarming case comes just after another apartment in Bengaluru emerged to be a containment zone when 113 of its residents tested positive for the virus.
The cases were discovered between February 15 to February 22, BBMP's commissioner N Manjunath Prasad said in a statement.
The apartment has nine blocks of which six blocks have been made into containment zones after the findings. There are 1500 residents in the complex.
The infected residents are in home quarantine after their samples were tested and the apartment is now sealed. A massive testing drive is being carried out by BBMP to trace all primary contacts of the affected individuals.
According to BBMP chief N Manjunath Prasad, carelessness on the part of citizens in following covid safety guidelines is the prime cause for the spike of cases in the city.
At a press conference, State Health Minister K Sudhakar ruled out the possibility of another lockdown by saying, “I have instructed all our commissioners to engage more marshals to monitor Covid protocols. There is a marginal rise in the positivity rate in the last few days. It's at 1.27 percent, which is not alarmingly high. At the moment, Karnataka doesn't deserve a lockdown.”
There has been a rise in flu, cold, and cough cases in the city. Doctors attribute it to fluctuations in the temperature however the possibility of a coronavirus infection cannot be ruled out.
Clinics are witnessing a rise in the influx of patients. Doctors advise that if a fever lasts for more than 3 days accompanied by body pain then a Covid test is mandatory. After Maharashtra and Kerala, Karnataka is the third worst-hit state due to the sudden spike of Covid -19 cases.
