As soon as the death of the Queen was announced on Thursday by Buckingham Palace, the social media handles operated by Kensington Palace were updated to refer to the royal pair as the Duke and Duchess of both Cornwall and Cambridge.
Prince Williams And Queen Elizabeth
Until the Queen’s death, the couple went only by the title - the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge; a title that was bestowed on them in April 2011.
Prince William is now the heir to the British throne. Going by old traditions, Prince Charles the eldest son of Queen Elizabeth II will ascend the throne after the longest-serving member of the British monarch passed away yesterday.
The title ‘Prince of Wales’ was so long held by Prince Charles. The title ‘Princess of Wales’ was last held by Lady Diana and the present wife of Charles - Duchess Camilla chose not to use the title out of respect. She instead uses the title ‘Duchess of Cornwall.’
Being the heir to the throne, William will now have more royal duties. It is believed that he has already stepped up his royal work after the exit of his brother Harry and uncle Andrew. He has become deeply involved in the royal issues of the palace and would have to prepare for his upcoming role as a king in the time to come.
“I think that most people think that William and Kate will make a great team and be a great king and queen,” said Phil Dampier, a royal author.
Operation Unicorn has been initiated which means immediate suspension of business at the Scottish Parliament will take place. Arrangements for the funeral of the Queen are underway.
As per a report in Politico, royal documents procured by the media company suggest that there will be ten days between the death and the funeral of the Queen. The day after the queen’s demise the Ascension Council comprising of senior officials will meet at St James’ Palace, London where Prince Charles will be proclaimed the new head.
Prince Charles also becomes the head of the Commonwealth and apparently Harry will be active in this area of work.
