Pope Francis Says “War is Insane” on the Russian and Ukraine Conflict

Pope Francis has expressed concern over the growing tensions between countries Russia and Ukraine.

He hoped that a diplomatic dialogue would avoid the “armed conflict. “War is insane”, he expressed.

During the Wednesday General Audience he thanked the people for participating in the “prayer for peace” due to the growing tension between the two countries.

“Let us continue to implore the God of peace that tensions and threats of war be overcome through serious dialogue, and that the 'Normandy Format' talks may also contribute to this,” he said.

“And let's not forget. War is madness,” he added.

Russia has repeatedly denied any plans of invading Ukraine despite growing number of troops near the borders.

Joint drills with Belarus which is a close ally of Russia has already begun and Ukraine calls it ‘psychological pressure.’ Western officials fear that an attack can take place soon.

Talks aimed at reducing tensions are expected to take place on Thursday that would include Russian and Ukraine envoys as well as France and Germany which is known as the Normandy Quartet.
