Kangana Ranaut Receives Death Threats Ahead of The Release of ‘Emergency’

Actress and BJP MP Kangana Ranaut received death threats ahead of the release of her next film ‘Emergency.’ The actress plays the role of former Prime Minister, Indira Gandhi, in the film.

The threats came after the release of the trailer of ‘Emergency’ on social media.

A chilling video is trending online where a group of men can be seen openly threatening the actress. One of the men can be heard saying, “If in the movie he (slain Khalistani militant Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale) is portrayed as a terrorist, remember what happened to the person (Indira Gandhi) whose movie you are doing? Who were Satwant Singh and Beant Singh? We will offer our head to Santji, and those who can offer head can also chop it off.”

Satwant Singh and Beant Singh were the two bodyguards who assassinated former PM Indira Gandhi.

Many Sikh organisations like the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee want the movie to be banned as they believe that the movie portrays the Sikh community in bad light. It also misrepresents Sikhs as “separatists.”

The actress took to X and tagged the Maharashtra, Punjab and Himachal Pradesh police asking them to investigate the matter.

The online video has attracted mixed reactions from users. Many have condemned the group of men for threatening the actress.

Earlier, Kangana found herself in another controversy when she remarked that the farmer’s protest in India could have led to a Bangladesh like situation in India.

‘Emergency’ is directed by Kangana Ranaut. Besides Ranaut, the film also features Anupam Kher, Milind Soman, Shreyas Talpade, Mahima Chaudhary and the late Satish Kaushik. The film will be released in theatres on September 6.
