Veteran journalist, writer, and film-maker Pritish Nandy died in Mumbai on Wednesday. The 73-year-old journalist died from a cardiac arrest at his Mumbai residence. His family carried out the last rites in the evening.

Pritish Nandy was a renowned figure in the Indian media since the 1980s. His iconic talk show, The Pritish Nandy Show, on Doordarshan, resonated highly with TV viewers. He interviewed many famous celebrities on this show.

He was simultaneously the Publishing Director of The Times of India Group and the editor of The Illustrated Weekly of India, The Independent, and Filmfare in the 1980s. The multifaceted personality authored and translated numerous books from regional languages into English. His poem Calcutta If You Must Exile Me is considered a classic in modern Indian literature.

He founded the Pritish Nandy Communications in 1993 which was well known for its TV shows and movies. Some critically acclaimed movies under the Pritish Nandy Communications banner were Chameli, Sur, Kaante and Jhankaar Beats.

The very recent drama series Four More Shots Please! on Amazon Prime Video won an International Emmy nomination in 2020 as well as other awards. Romantic comedy anthology series Modern Love Mumbai which was produced under his banner was also well-received by viewers.

Numerous celebrities from the Indian entertainment world turned to social media to express their heartfelt condolences.

Sanjay Dutt wrote, “A true creative genius and a kind soul, you will be missed sir. #PritishNandy (folded hands).

“Shocked and heartbroken by the loss of my dear friend Pritish Nandy. A fearless editor, a brave soul, and a man of his word, he embodied integrity like no other,” Anil Kapoor posted on social media.

“Deeply deeply saddened at the passing on of my dear friend @PritishNandy : we used to often engage in harmless (and humorous) banter on Twitter. Travel well Pritish...," wrote Suhel Seth on X.

“Deeply deeply saddened and shocked to know about the demise of one of my dearest and closest friends #PritishNandy! Amazing poet, writer, filmmaker and a brave and unique editor/journalist!” Anupam Kher wrote.

The talented media personality, who wore many hats, will be greatly missed for his significant contributions to the fields of art, movies, and literature.
