Heavy Rain Lashes Out in Bengaluru, Schools to Stay Shut as Orange Alert Issued
Bangalore records 66mm of rainfall in less than 24 hours, schools and colleges asked to shut down as the city braces for an orange alert
Bangalore is lashed by rains which is creating challenges for the people and is also hampering the daily routine. IMD has issued an orange alert for Bangalore and nearby areas. The government has asked the schools and colleges to provide holidays to the students. Moreover, IT and non-IT firms have been directed to work from home amid a huge spur in the rainfall density.
IMD has claimed that Bangalore will be facing immense rain on Wednesday and Thursday because of a depression. Despite the schools and colleges having opened after a long break in Dusshera, they have been directed to shut schools. Teachers have been directed to take online classes for students of higher sections.
The civic body of Bangalore claimed that is all ready to take any action as the emergency teams have been kept on standby. “Following are the areas where it rained throughout the day, and there is a prediction that it may rain further in these areas until 8 am 16/10/2024. BBMP’s flood management systems are in place and operational. We are actively addressing and providing areas impacted by the rain.”
On Wednesday morning the city received a cumulative rainfall of close to 66 mm which is quite high. Minister Krishna Byre Gowda has ensured that the state disaster team is ready and close to 60 personnel have been deployed in case of an emergency.
Traffic police have requested people not to travel through underpasses as many underpasses in the city are underwater. This underpass can be a dangerous life risk is associated. The sudden depression is believed to sustain for another day and then fade away as the Northeastern monsoon passes.
