Filming of Biopic ‘Michael’ Takes Place in Neverland Ranch, California

The world-famous Neverland Ranch is being used for shooting, for the upcoming biopic based on Michael Jackson’s life, after years of remaining distant from the media.

Three hundred people have been given access to use the property for the purpose of shooting. The ranch which has been the subject of controversies and speculation in the past will be featured in Antoine Fuqua’s ‘Michael.’

The property which is approximately 2700 acres has a 50 seater cinema hall, basketball court and several guesthouses. The large property is situated in Santa Barbara County, California.

The crew were granted permission for dialogue, petting zoo, stunt and even the use of helicopters. It’s amazing to witness the large acre of land brimming with life and people once again!

‘Neverland’ was Jackson’s home and private amusement park, however, after legal troubles, he left the place, never to return. The property has been sold and renamed Sycamore Valley Ranch but it’s still popularly known by its original name ‘Neverland’, which was inspired by Peter Pan’s story.

Coming to the much-anticipated biopic, ‘Michael’ is produced by Graham King who was also the face behind Freddie Mercury’s 2019 biopic Bohemian Rhapsody. King said that he wanted to “humanize but not sanitize and present the most compelling, unbiased story.” The screenplay is written by John Logan and Lionsgate acquired the distribution rights of the movie.

“Michael will give audiences an in-depth portrayal of the complicated man who became the King of Pop. It will bring to life Jackson’s most iconic performances as it gives an informed insight into the entertainer’s artistic process and personal life”, as stated in a press release previously.

Michael Jackson’s nephew Jaafar Jackson makes his debut in the biographical musical drama, and he will play his enigmatic uncle Michael Jackson.

Michael is scheduled to release on April 18, 2025.
