Netflix shared the trailer of ‘Blonde’ with the tagline “Hollywood was her dream, but fame became her nightmare” on June 16.
The trailer begins with a weeping Marilyn saying “Please come. Don’t abandon me.”
As the trailer progresses you can see the actress in the iconic flying white dress that she wore above the subway. A few more scenes of her surrounded by the media when she was in the prime of her career can be seen.
Diamonds are a girl's best friend track from the famous ‘Gentlemen Prefer Blondes’ can be heard playing in the background.
Towards the end of the teaser the voice says, “ She’s almost here.” Marilyn then looks at her own reflection in the mirror and sees a transformed and a glamorous version of herself. She observes it and chuckles.
The film follows the mysterious and captivating life of Marilyn Monroe from tumultuous childhood to her rise in stardom and her tragic end.
The teaser is pretty impressive and raises expectations from the film.
Speaking about the film, Ana recently told Netflix Queue, “Andrew’s ambitions were very clear from the start — to present a version of Marilyn Monroe’s life through her lens. He wanted the world to experience what it actually felt like to not only be Marilyn, but also Norma Jeane. I found that to be the most daring, unapologetic, and feminist take on her story that I had ever seen.”
The official synopsis of the film reads, “'The film boldly reimagines the life of one of Hollywood’s most enduring icons, Marilyn Monroe. From her volatile childhood as Norma Jeane, through her rise to stardom and romantic entanglements, Blonde blurs the lines of fact and fiction to explore the widening split between her public and private selves.”
This is the first film made by the streaming service to receive the rare NC-17 rating from the Motion Picture Association and releases on Netflix on September 23.
