Cool player M S Dhoni took us by surprise by announcing his retirement from international cricket this Independence day through an Instagram video post. Known for his composed nature, timing, and excellent cricket skills, he has left many of his fans disappointed including the cricket community. He was last seen in the 2019 World Cup semifinal against New Zealand.
The only captain in the history of cricket to have won three ICC Trophies- 007 World T20, 2011 World Cup and 2013 ICC Champions Trophy! He is one of the highest run-scorers in One Day Internationals.
Members of the cricket community have left heartfelt tributes for the amazing star. They recalled fond memories and the strong camaraderie they shared with the humble star from Ranchi.
Virat Kohli’s tribute to Dhoni:
"I've always said this and I will say it again, you will always be my Captain," #TeamIndia Skipper @imVkohli pays his tribute to @msdhoni who announced his retirement from international cricket at 1929 hours yesterday.#ThankYouMSD pic.twitter.com/U6uWlow4lB— BCCI (@BCCI) August 16, 2020
Even former Pakistan captain Inzamam-ul-Haq felt that “Mahi” should have retired from the grounds in front of all his fans. Inzamam pointed out that Dhoni used to “build” players.
He elaborated, “MS Dhoni is such a clever cricketer that he knew how to build players. His level of understanding of the sport was so good that he used to pick players and then turn them into great players. Suresh Raina and R Ashwin are two best players, MS Dhoni produced.”
Gary Kirsten remembered Dhoni for all the fond memories during his tenure as the Indian coach. He wrote, “A privilege to work with one of the best leaders I have come across. Thanks MS for many fond memories with the Indian Cricket Team @msdhoni.”
Many cricket buffs feel that cricket will never be the same without Dhoni, however, there is some good news. Fans of Dhoni will continue to witness his magic on the field during the IPL. They want him to play for the franchise as long as he desires to play.
“He has quit international cricket only. He is going to play for CSK. We want him to play for us as long as he wants. In fact, we plan to retain him as a player after the 2021 IPL too’, Chennai Super Kings CEO Kasi Viswanathan told TOI on Sunday. So we can expect to see the cricket star ace the game when IPL begins on September 19 in UAE.
