It gives a feeling of those characteristics which Underwood has displayed while going through a rough patch in the past couple of months. Last month she admitted her new album was influenced by the recent accident that left her with 50 stitches and a scarred face.
The glittery eyeliner flowing down the singer’s eyes brings forth the crying theme of the song. One thing to notice is that there are no signs of any scars on Underwood’s face throughout the video.
Underwood's "Cry Pretty" video revolves around a live stage show. The Video clips are a mix of scenes from her performance, backstage scenes and of her stage show are mixed with scenes from backstage and her hotel room. The part which is heart-wrenching is the scene where she is seen crying till her make-up wears off. It goes well with the name of the album. There is a scene which is quite meaningful and dramatic as Underwood is seen washing all her pain she is going through under the shower. In the video, she is also seen walking from her hotel room wearing sunglasses probably to hide the fact that she had been crying.
The lyrics of the song describes a woman who's used to keeping a check on her true emotions and tears, but is suddenly faced with a situation where she can't do that any longer and has to learn to give in to her emotions and embrace it.
A teaser for the music video was released last week.
