California Woman Escapes Jail Even after Stabbing Her Boyfriend over 100 Times
In a startling case, a California woman received a relatively lenient sentence despite the severity of her crime, which involved stabbing her boyfriend 108 times.
In a shocking case, a California woman received a lighter sentence, even though she stabbed her boyfriend 108 times.
Bryn Spejcher, 32, stabbed her boyfriend Chad O'Melia, 26, under the influence of drugs in 2018.
The stabbing took place in the night between May 27 and May 28 in Chad O'Melia’s flat.
The couple had smoked Marijuana together. Chad allegedly forced her to consume the last bit which adversely affected her resulting in the tragic situation.
Experts say that she was under “cannabis-induced psychosis” and “had no control over her actions” when she stabbed her boyfriend leading to his tragic death.
When Cops arrived at the scene they found Chad lying in a pool of blood while Spejcher still had the knife in her hands and was screaming hysterically. She later tried to slit her throat but was disarmed by the police officers on time. Chad was pronounced dead by the paramedics.
Spejcher was sentenced to only two years of probation and one hundred hours of community service. She was facing a four year prison term ahead of her Tuesday sentencing.
“He just gave everyone in the state of California who smokes marijuana a license to kill someone,” the victim's father, Sean O'Melia said.
Spejcher’s lawyers argue that she was not an experienced pot smoker and became “involuntarily intoxicated” at the time of the killing. Lawyer Bob Schwartz was pleased with the Judge’s ruling.
“Judge Worley did the right and courageous thing,” Schwartz said.
