Zoya Akhtar Poses with ‘The Archies’ Gang near Film’s Billboard in Busy Highway

The countdown for the release of Zoya Akhtar’s much anticipated movie ‘The Archies’ has begun. The group took to the buzzing street of Mumbai Western Express Highway to make this special announcement by standing near the movie’s hoarding. 

The billboard features a countdown timer signalling the number of days left for the film’s release. The musical comedy is all set to launch on December 7 on Netflix. 

Netflix placed the hoarding near Mumbai’s domestic airport as it is one of the busiest locations of the highway. 

Zoya Akhtar was with the gang to cheer them on. She shared the delightful picture on her IG profile and penned these words for them: “Your first hoarding is up kiddos. May there be many more. May you never stop working hard and forever remain wide eyed, I wish you the world.”

Netflix shared the image on Instagram with these words, “Hamari kahaani ka countdown shuru ho chuka hai 🙌✨This is a daily reminder that #TheArchies are making their grand entrance on 7th December.

In conversation with ‘Vogue’ Zoya said that selecting the cast for the film was a daunting task. “For me, when I’m casting actors, the essence of the characters is very important,” Akhtar points out. 

“And that’s what I look for in someone who comes to audition for a role. Is that essence there? You can manipulate everything else to some extent, but if that essence is not there you’re setting yourself up for failure.”

Zoya explained that acting is not an easy process. It can be a very “daunting” task. She thus wanted all of them to get to know each other and be comfortable with each other before they actually appeared in front of the camera.

So, they were part of a boot camp where the actors took dance classes, acting workshops and cinematography training. Their constant wide-eyedness was what endeared to her the most. 

The movie is based on the famous American comics of the same name. It is produced by Tiger Baby productions. The movie features Suhana Khan, Khushi Kapoor, Agastya Nanda, Vedang Raina, Yuvraj Menda, Mihir Ahuja and Aditi “Dot” Saigal in pivotal roles. 

Set in the sixties, ‘The Archies’ follows the lives of Archie, Veronica, Betty, Jughead, Reggie, Ethel and Dilton in the fictional town of Riverdale.
