WhatsApp Rolls out ‘Dark Mode’ Feature for Its Beta Version Users

WhatsApp has started rolling out the‘ dark mode’ feature to the users of its beta version for Android users. This means those who are using the beta version, can also download the version 2.20.13 of the app on their smartphones to get hands-on experience of the feature.

Along with the ‘Dark’ option, the user will also see the ‘Light’ option that is a normal theme, one can also opt for. WhatsApp also added another feature on its setting which is ‘Set by battery saver’, which will enable an automatic switch to light and dark theme.

An option of ‘System default’ is also newly added, which identifies the theme of your smartphone and sets the theme of the app accordingly.

WhatsApp is also exploring a new beta update for the iOS users, once ready it would bring features like hiding muted status update, add badge improvements and splash screen, among others. The new splash screen on WhatsApp would enable users to see the WhatsApp logo, whenever they open the app on their iPhones. The feature is also available on the Android beta app.

Last week, WhatsApp also added a new privacy setting, which will enable users to decide whether they want to join a group on the messaging platform or not.

Now with this dark feature, the home screen and the settings menu are now clad in a dark colour, but in the case of conversation interface, only the chat bubbles will be dark while the background is white or it reflects any other colour users have set as background.

In order to enable ‘Dark Mode’ on WhatsApp follow the following steps.

  1. Download the latest version of the WhatsApp beta update and open the app.

  2. Once open the app, tap on the three dot menu icon on the top right corner of the screen and select Settings.

  3. On the Settings page, tap on Chats, and then on the Theme. This will take you to a new window where you can choose the theme.

  4. Tap on the Dark in the new window. Thereby enabling the dark mode interface across the application.

  5. One can also select the System default option to switch between dark and light mode based on the system settings automatically.

If a user doesn’t see the dark mode on WhatsApp after installing the update, they need to delete and reinstall the latest version of the app from the Google Play Store. Of course, delete the app only after backing up your previous chat history.
