The film explores the powerful subjects of ‘gender equality’ and ‘Patriarchy.’
In one of her early interviews, Vidya revealed that this was her first-ever short film and she chose it keeping the powerful subjects in mind.
As expected Vidya was overjoyed on hearing the good news of the Oscar nomination!
“Natkhat is in the race for the Oscars 2021! Here is a snippet from our special film”, she shared on Instagram.
She shared the snippet from the film where she is seen having a general conversation with her son played by Sanika Patel.
What begins as a general conversation between a mother and a child soon begins to take a worrisome turn because of certain chilling details revealed by the son in the conversation.
The scene shows that the young boy has already formed his opinion about the opposite sex. The seeds of patriarchy have already been sown into his tender mind. Thanks to his peers.

It affirms that a child’s mind is impressionable and is heavily influenced by the ideas, ways, and behaviour of the people he is closely surrounded with. The clip is powerful and gives us a preview of what the entire film will be all about. It also emphasizes the powerful message that “change should begin at home.”
The film which is only 33 minutes long released last year and has been given thumbs up by international audiences. It has premiered at Tribeca’s We Are One: A Global Film Festival. It has also premiered at the Indian Film Festival of Melbourne and London last year.
The movie has been co-produced by Vidya Balan along with Ronnie Screwvala. It marks her debut as a producer. Annukampa Harsh and Shaan Vyas are the writers of the film.
