In a gruesome case that has come to light in Lakhimpur district, Uttar Pradesh, the bodies of two dalit sisters aged 17 and 15 were found hanging on a tree on Wednesday.
Six men have been arrested in the case although four men strangled them according to police.
The girls were raped in a sugercane field and reportedly when the girls insisted on the accusers marrying them, they hung the two women on the tree to disguise the incident as a suicide.
Their bodies were found a kilometre away from their house in Nighasan police station limits. There were no visible injuries in the body.
It is believed that the girls knew their accusers. They were friends and went willingly on their bikes according to the police.
The mother of the dalit teenage girls alleges that the daughters were raped and murdered. She has also filed an FIR which states that the girls were forcefully taken.
