Tokyo Olympics 2020 Day 16: Schedule of the Last Day Events and Closing Ceremony

The coronavirus continues to spread throughout Japan and around the world. The Olympics closing event will look different. The closing ceremony of the Tokyo Olympics should be held at 9:00 pm at AEST on Sunday, August 8, and operate for about three hours.

The closing ceremony of the Tokyo Olympics should be held at 9:00 pm at AEST on Sunday, August 8, and operate for about three hours. The theme of the Olympic Ceremonies is Moving Forward, referencing the global COVID-19 pandemic, with the closing ceremony theme being Worlds We Share, which is expected to cover Global Impact, Diversity, and a brighter future.

  • Closing Ceremony of Tokyo Olympics 2020:

The Antwerp Ceremony is a tradition which has been held at every closing ceremony since 1920. The flag will be passed by Yuriko Koike, the Governor of Tokyo, to IOC President Thomas Bach, who will then hand the Olympic flag over to Anne Hidalgo, the Mayor of Paris. It will be followed by the raising of the flag of France and the playing of its national anthem. 

After the French National Anthem, it will be followed by an artistic presentation of the 2024 Summer Olympics, showcasing the French and Parisian cultures, which will include music by Yoann Lemoine, better known as Woodkid, and the Orchestre National de France.
