The Secret to Doing More With Less

You need to finish a lot and you have big dreams. But how do you satisfy, both the need to be bigger and greater, and the need to accomplish something is intense. You need to do more with less.

Most entrepreneurs will have a shorter attention span and many interests from which they drive insights. But what about action? Sometimes when they desire to take action they become too stuck on the past and what they don’t have.

The act of becoming unstuck takes time but it requires a greater attention towards the things that don’t matter rather than the ones that do. You need to start cutting out the things that don’t matter in the end. This includes toxic people, toxic work situations and any job roles that don’t suit yourself or make you feel empowered.

Anything you can’t do – you should outsource. Outsourcing is the key to becoming more independent and doing more with less.

Invest your attention wisely

You may pick up things on the scanner, with more attention diverted to more things. This is a bad situation to be in, as you may feel trapped or bogged down with the amount of work that’s pending. So, you procrastinate and try to find out why you’re unhappy.

The secret is it to let go of the things that you don’t want to do and the things that you don’t find to be too interesting. You can always find someone that does it ten times better and faster. You can work with them to bring down your personal stress and help clients out simultaneously.

Focusing on less

By focusing on a shorter list of things to be done, people get more done. This is because we can clearly calculate the impact of our work and how we can do things that progress ourselves or demote ourselves. When our list of unimportant tasks gets bigger and bigger, we start to divert our attention away and become more insecure about the work that we’re doing right now.

CEOs have a great command over work as they delegate everything they need do and free-up their mental capacity. This is a skill that every entrepreneur and startup founder needs to learn.

Hourly effective rate

What’s interesting is that anyone can start doing this at an early stage. You have to start by creating a goal in your mind. It has to be a strong financial one or one that involves where you want to be professionally. Next, calculate your effective hourly rate (per hour from per year), and then ask yourself whether the task you are doing right now is worth the hourly rate you’ve assigned yourself. If the answer is no, then you shouldn’t be doing that task.

If the answer is yes, then you can take it in-house and do it yourself. This is a great way to estimate whether you are doing things that you should be doing instead of taking on tasks because they resemble ‘work’.

Identifying which tasks can be delegated

Anything you’re not good at or doesn’t come naturally to you, you should delegate. Everyone knows their strengths and weaknesses and it helps to keep things in check. When you can figure out what tasks are completely out of range, it helps to delegate them to someone else.

It also helps to figure out what makes more financial sense. If outsourcing is giving you more clients, then that’s a golden egg situation. You have a system that works for you and you can now focus on getting richer clients.

Even when it comes to getting into different industries or different lines of work, you can outsource the production of that material to someone else who is good at it. This is so that you can focus on the things that truly matter to you. Things like finance, accounting or business development can be handled internally while the rest externally thereby creating a power-house of a situation for your company.

Another great way to figure out what you should be doing with your time is to figure out where the maximum value is coming from when it comes to weekly productivity. E.g. if a single task gives you 80% of the returns then focusing on that more gives you greater returns. You can let go of the other areas in your business and focus on the areas that you want to explore further.

Be conscious of your time

You should be aware of how you spend your time and how you best allocate certain chunks of time. You can’t go around spending your time erroneously and being true to a schedule makes you more impactful in doing more with less. When you have less time spent on figuring out your next moves, you can focus on doing more with less.

When you really focus on what you want to do and how you spend your time you can accomplish a lot more in 1 hour than most people do in 8.

By giving yourself no chance to fail and removing all distractions that can come in the middle, you have effectively created a better chance for your future self. You can become more aware and conscious of how you spend time in your life and become happier with accomplishing tasks rather than avoiding them.

You can create a life of your dreams by being more aware of how you spend time and preparing a commitment for yourself and sticking to it makes you feel happy.

Conclusion

While accountability is key, you need to understand that you will break the promise to yourself time and time again.

But, you need to get back on that horse and keep riding until you reach your destination. You can get there with perseverance and you don’t need much to keep the fire burning inside.

You can continue and march towards success if you know what you want to do and how you want to spend your time doing it. Cutting out the things that don’t give you anything in return is a great way to set yourself up for success.
