The Oscar Nominations 2020 Are Announced; Joker Tops the List
Joaquin Phoenix has been nominated for Best Actor while Todd Phillips has been nominated for achievement in direction for ‘Joker.’
The Oscar nominations for 2020 have finally been announced! The top contenders were announced in Los Angeles by actors John Cho and Issa Rae. The flick that is leading the pack is ‘Joker’ proudly standing with a whopping 11 nominations making it the most nominated movie of the year. Joaquin Phoenix has been nominated for Best Actor while Todd Phillips has been nominated for achievement in direction for ‘Joker.’
‘Once Upon A Time in Hollywood’ is the next big contender! Leonardo and Brad Pitt starrer ‘Once Upon A Time in Hollywood’ bagged 10 nominations. ‘The Irishman’ and ‘1917’ also bagged 10 nominations each. ‘Marriage Story’, ‘Little Women’, ‘Jojo Rabbit’, and ‘Parasite’ bagged six nominations each.
Besides Joaquin, Leonardo Dicaprio has entered the ‘Best Actor’ category for his sterling performance in ‘Once Upon A Time in Hollywood’ among others. So, gear up to witness some tough competition here! In the female category, Scarlett Johansson and Margot Robbie have been nominated for ‘Jojo Rabbit’ and ‘Bombshell’ respectively among others.
It was a glorious day for Netflix too. It took home 24 Oscar nominations for movies like ‘Marriage Story’, ‘The Two Popes’ and ‘The Irishman.’
It was disappointing for the womenfolk as for the second year in a row there were no women nominated in the best director category.
The spectacular 92nd Annual Academy Awards will be aired on February 9. Like last time, the event will have no host and the onus to carry the event forward lies solely on the presenters.
