The Most Awaited Met Gala was Bold and Creative, Rihanna Dressed as the Pope and Katy was an Angel

The Met Gala, the fundraising event for the Metropolitan Museum of Art's Costume Institute was held on Monday night. It is the most awaited event among the rich and famous with fashion designers and stars converging from around the world. It is an opportunity for the elites of Hollywood to come to New York City and show off their ostentatiously costly and luxurious fashion of the season.

The Met Gala, formally known as the Costume Institute Gala is also known as the Met Ball. It marks the grand opening of the Costume Institute's annual fashion exhibit, The Costume Institute exhibition has a new theme every year which is celebrated during the event. This theme becomes the dress code for the night and the guests are supposed to dress according to the theme chosen. Since Wintour took over the reins in 1995, every year the event selects honorary hosts from the worlds of entertainment and fashion. This year's co-chairs are Amal Clooney, Rihanna, and Donatella Versace. The gala is annually held on the first Monday in May.

This year, items from the Vatican and other Catholic-inspired artistic items were exhibited. To match and keep in tune with what they would be seeing inside the grand event, the stars were asked to dress keeping in mind different catholic imagery. This year's theme was "Heavenly Bodies: Fashion and the Catholic Imagination."

Fashion extravaganza

Rihanna was the first to arrive in a short white dress designed by Margiela and a papal crown similar to the one worn by the pope. She was soon followed by Katy Perry, dressed in a shimmery gold Versace mini dress, wearing six-foot angel wings and she posed for photographs kneeling in a prayer position.

Everyone was eagerly waiting to check out what Madonna would be wearing as she was once a controversial figure where Catholics were concerned when her song ‘Like a virgin’ released in 1989. She wore a black dress with a diamond-encrusted headdress.

Kim Kardashian was a surprise element as she walked the carpet without her husband Kanye West. They were always seen together on the Red carpet for the past several years. Kim cut a pretty picture dressed in gold.

The “Sex and the City” star Parker and Cohen arrived dressed in matching gold with Sacred Hearts prints sprinkled all over it.

Cardi B arrived at her first Met Gala red carpet. She surprised everyone looking extremely glamorous in a plunging beaded gown with a jeweled headgear.

Meanwhile, “Ladybird” director Greta Gerwig wore a nun’s habit inspired all black dress.

Many celebrities hit the red carpet on Monday night, wearing papal-inspired gowns, chainmail costumes, crosses, rosary beads and other religious imagery and crusade inspired dresses.

Apart from all the glitz and glamour on the red carpet, there was even a proposal. It was quite romantic and emotional to see Rapper 2 Chainz, whose real name is Tauheed Epps, get down on one knee on the pop the question to Kesha Ward, with whom he has three children. And of course, She said yes.

All the proceeds from the gala go to the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute.

The gala is one of the most expensive events where tickets can cost $30,000 each, with a table running $275,000.
