The Chief Content Head of Netflix Summoned over The IC-814 Series

Netflix India Cheif, Monika Shergill was summoned for the IC-814 series. The series shows the Kandahar Hijack and the damage caused to passengers. The series is a true depiction of the 1999 hijack by Harkat-ul-Mujahideen. The prime reason behind the summon is identified as the usage of the mythological character name in the series.

The Ministry of Broadcasting and Information directed the Chief to appear before the Government to explain the contentious act done by Netflix. The debates sparked when the mythological characters were named such as “Bhola” and “Shankar”

Upon asking one of the Government officials, they said "Nobody has the right to play with the sentiments of the people of this nation. India's culture and civilization should always be respected. You should think before portraying something in the wrong manner. The government is taking it very seriously."

The hijack was one of torture to the crew and passengers which had highly affected the Indian Government. The Indian Airlines flight was diverted to Amritsar, Lahore, and Dubai, and finally landed at Taliban-dominated Kandahar which was the final destination before the flight was released 8 days later.

The names used in the series depicted that of an Indian Mythological god for which the director Anubhav Sinha was also apprehended. The series was derived from “Flight into Fear”.
