Taylor Swift Calls out Netflix’s Show ‘Ginny and Georgia’ for Their Sexist Joke

Taylor Swift’s fans have taken on the team of comedy drama ‘Ginny and Georgia’ for featuring a sexist joke that ropes in the name of the popular singer.

In one of the scenes, Ginny Miller and her mother Georgia are seen arguing on the complex subject of “relationships.”

When Ginny is questioned whether she broke up with her boyfriend, she answers back to Georgia by saying, “What do you care? You go through men faster than Taylor Swift.”

This line was enough to work up Taylor’s fans into a frenzied state. Many of them tweeted in favour of their favourite singer.

Soon #RESPECT TAYLOR SWIFT began trending on the microblogging platform.

One user expressed that being misogynistic and slut shaming people has never been a joke while a third user TobilovesTay said “shaming women for a dating life that should never concern you to begin with is not okay.”

The ‘Bad Blood’ singer didn’t appreciate the manner her name was used in the television series. She tweeted: “Hey Ginny & Georgia, 2010 called and it wants its lazy, deeply sexist joke back.”

“How about we stop degrading hard working women”, she pointed out in the tweet.

While Taylors’ fans supported her others thought that she made a “big deal” out of a joke.

Although Taylor’s private life has always been under scrutiny and she has been linked to several men in the past, she’s been in a relationship with 30-year-old British actor Joe Alwyn for several years.

She had recently teamed up with Netflix for the documentary ‘Miss Americana’ that explores her personal life and her challenging career.

While jokes are meant to be taken lightly, dragging a celebrity’s personal life into media to send a message across to viewers is a definite no-no. It is embarrassing and it is disrespectful for the individual in question. Celebs are especially vulnerable because their lives are constantly under the spotlight.
