Imran Khan would also be inviting the Pakistan cricket team that he captained and led to victory over England in the world cup.
To-be-Prime Minister Imran Khan has decided to invite top three cricketers from India namely Navjot Singh Sidhu, Sunil Gavaskar and Kapil Dev to his much-awaited oath-taking ceremony. Details below.
The popular cricketers who’ve also been good friends with Imran Khan over the years have reportedly accepted his invitation. Navjot Singh Sidhu has promptly accepted his invitation. He said that he will travel to Pakistan for the swearing-in ceremony. Sidhu has great respect for the cricketer and has defined him as a “Greek God”, “man of character” and “trustworthy.”
Kapil Dev has been cautious in confirming whether he will attend the ceremony though. He said that he hasn’t received an invite as of now however if it does come he would definitely go for the swearing-in ceremony with the government’s approval. As of now, there has been no confirmation from Sunil Gavaskar and neither Aamir Khan who are also in the guest list.
Indian High Commissioner Ajay Basaria recently gifted Imran Khan with a cricket bat that was signed by top Indian cricketers, when they met on Friday. They met to discuss the future relationship and prospects between the two countries. The Indian envoy congratulated Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf chief on his victorious win in the July 26 polls by attaining 116 seats in the National Assembly. Imran Khan would also be inviting the Pakistan cricket team that he captained and led to victory over England in the World Cup.
It’s said that Imran Khan has decided to go in for a simple swearing-in ceremony which is to take place on August 18. A statement released by the party stated, “The ceremony will be completely national in its façade and essence.” There were speculations that no foreign dignitaries would be invited for the oath-taking ceremony, however, that seems to have changed after talks of inviting Indian cricketers have come up.
Before Imran Khan’s electoral success, the cricket legend became a victim of controversy and came under fire by his former wife Reham Khan. In her autobiography, the British journalist revealed personal details about the cricketer and his wayward personality. She spoke about her troubled relationship with Imran Khan.
She said, “He’s so narcissistic and single-minded about his goal (to become Pakistan PM) that he forgets the appropriate emotional response to things.” After the release of her book, in an interview with Christina Lamb, the British Journalist stated that the Prime Minister-in-waiting is a “hypocrite who will do anything to get power” and added it would be a disaster for the country [if elected as the prime minister]. Many PTI supporters though have dismissed these allegations and have labeled the journalist’s book as “the ravings of an embittered ex”.
As for Imran Khan, he revealed that Reham Khan was the biggest mistake of his life. The cricket legend now, however, seems to put the issue behind after his victorious electoral success. The cricketer took to politics after retiring from cricket and formed the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf in the mid-nineties. In his victory speech, Imran Khan said that he sees Pakistan as a humanitarian state where commoners and the less fortunate will be put first. He promised that his government would be devoid of all pompousness and he would present himself for public accountability for an hour every week, wherein he’ll answer questions put forward by the public.
