Shooter Student in Texas School Kills 10

Students with guns at schools has been a burning issue in the US, as the number of shooting incidents at schools is increasing day by day and more than 5000 people have been killed in such shooting incidents, so far this year only. Recently, a 17-year-old student of Santa Fe High School used a shotgun and a revolver, legally owned by his father to kill 10 people and injuring more than 10 in the incident.

Most of the victims in the shooting spree were students of the school, the attacker Dimitrios Pagourtzis is arrested and he has confessed to the crime. The motive behind this incident is still not yet clear, the investigation is on. According to witness the attacker entered the art class and opened fire indiscriminately in early hours, after the school started. There were 1,400 students in the school at the time of the attack. Among the injured is also Santa Fe school police officer John Barnes. He is now in a critical condition and undergoing surgery.

US President Donald Trump said, “Unfortunately, I have to begin by expressing our sadness and heartbreak over the deadly shooting at Santa Fe High School in Texas. This has been going on too long in our country. Too many years. Too many decades now. We grieve for the terrible loss of life and send our support to everyone affected by this absolutely horrific attack”.

He has also ordered flags to be flown half at the White House and all government and defense establishments as a mark of respect for those who lost their lives.

 

First Lady Melania Trump tweeted, “My heart goes out to Santa Fe and all of Texas today”.

Texas Governor Greg Abbott said the shooting at the Santa Fe High School, as “one of the most heinous attacks that we've ever seen in the history of Texas schools. It's impossible to describe the magnitude of the evil of someone who would attack innocent children in a school”.

He also informed that various kind of explosives and other devices have been found at the school campus, which include a CO2 device and a Molotov Cocktail.

According to Police, in the initial investigation, it has been found that the attacker has been planning the attack for a long time and also intended to kill himself after the attack, but gave up the idea later and surrendered.

The Santa Fe High School attack is the deadliest school shooting since the shooting incident in February at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida, where 17 people have been killed.

So far the most deadly school shooting in the US history happened at Virginia Tech University in Virginia, where 33 people were killed and 25 injured by the attacker named, Seung-Hui Cho, who committed suicide immediately after the attack.

This year more than 5,000 people have died in shooting incidents mostly in schools only in the United States, according to monitoring group the Gun Violence Archive.
