Shamsud-Din Jabbar Is Identified As The Prime Suspect in The New Orleans Shooting Case

Shamsud-Din Jabbar, 42, is the prime suspect in the New Orleans shooting attack that took place in the historic district called the French Quarter. He was a former US Army veteran who also served in Afghanistan.

The tragic shooting incident took place on New Year’s day in the French Quarter leaving 15 dead and at least 35 others injured.

The case has been taken over by investigation agency FBI. The FBI suspects that the attack was carried out with the assistance of others.

The attacker first rammed into the crowd of revellers and then opened fire on them on Wednesday. He was soon gunned down by the police after the incident.

The police found some guns, an explosive device, and an ISIS flag in the vehicle, news agency AP reported.

The FBI has found videos that Shamsud-Din Jabbar posted on social media just hours before the attack, that indicate that he was inspired by the terrorist group ISIS.

“We do not believe that Jabbar was solely responsible. We are aggressively running down every lead, including those of his known associates,” an FBI officer told reporters.

Jabbar worked in real estate in Houston. In another video, he said that he was born and raised in Beaumont, a city about 130 km east of Houston. According to the Army, he worked as an IT specialist from 2007 to 2015.

In a video uploaded to YouTube, he introduced himself as a property manager. “I'm Shamsud-Din Jabbar, Team Lead for the Midas Group and Property Manager at Blue Meadow Properties,” he said.

Jabbar joined the Army Reserve as an IT specialist until 2020. He held the rank of a sergeant at the end of service, according to an Army official. Jabbar was deployed to Afghanistan from February 2009 to January 2010, the official said. He held a degree in computing from Georgia State University.

He had no past record of violence.
