Saudi Arabia Makes History by Joining The Miss Universe International Pageant; Rumy Alqahtani Will Represent The Nation
Saudi Arabia debuts in Miss Universe 2024, led by Crown Prince Mohammed Bin Salman. Rumy Alqahtani, a Riyadh model, makes history as the country's first contestant, symbolizing societal progress amid cultural shifts.
In a landmark moment, Saudi Arabia will be participating in the Miss Universe pageant for the very first time. This societal and historical change in the Arab nation comes under the leadership of crown prince Mohammed Bin Salman.
Saudi Arabian model, Rumy Alqahtani, will become the first woman ever to represent the country at the international pageant alongside contestants from around the world.
The model from the capital city of Riyadh, wrote on her Insta profile, “I am honoured to participate in the Miss Universe 2024 competition. This is the first participation of Saudi Arabia in the Miss Universe competition.”
The twenty-seven-year old model holds a Bachelor's Degree in Dentistry and is fluent in three languages: French, Arab and English. The social media influencer has a penchant for travelling, which is often highlighted on her social media pages. Add to this, she has over a million followers on her IG profile.
Rumy Alqahtani has represented her country in numerous beauty pageants including the Miss and Mrs Global Asian. She holds various beauty pageant titles such as Miss Saudi Arabia Miss Middle East (Saudi Arabia), Miss Arab World Peace 2021 and Miss Woman (Saudi Arabia). Embracing this new opportunity, Rumy Alqahtani will showcase Arabian culture and heritage on the global stage.
Over the years there has been a significant shift, particularly in the status of women in Saudi Arabia, such as lifting of bans on women driving, applying of passports without male guardianship and attending mixed gender events. The country aims to attract millions of tourists by 2030 as part of its latest economic plan.
There has been a remarkable change in the societal and cultural values of Saudi Arabia as evidenced by these turning point moments; a nation which was formerly known for its conservative image.
