Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s historical drama web series Heeramandi : The Diamond Bazaar will be released next week on Netflix. Bhansali envisioned this dream project fourteen years ago and it has finally come to fruition.

Set in pre independent British rule India, the television series revolves around the lives of high profiled courtesans who catered to the nobility during the Mughal era in Heera Mandi, Lahore. Heera Mandi has great cultural and historical significance.

The woman centric drama series explores the cultural identity of Heeramandi and touches upon subjects like love, betrayal, succession and politics in the courtesan houses.

These dancers were highly skilled in Indian classical music, Kathak, mujra dance, poetry and etiquette.

Heeramandi boasts of a stellar cast which includes Manisha Koirala, Sonakshi Sinha, Richa Chadha, Sharmin Segal, Aditi Rao Hydari, and Sanjeeda Shaikh.

Fardeen Khan has made a surprise comeback with Heeramandi while Adhyayan Suman and Shekhar Suman too have pivotal roles.
