Russel Crowe is Having an Auction Called The Art of Divorce to Celebrate His 53rd Birthday

Actor Russel Crowe is celebrating his 53rd birthday and the way he is doing it is quite extraordinary and strange. He feels, it is time to clear the clutter and move on and what better way than having an auction of some stuff that is mostly odd and also a collection of movie memorabilia. This auction has been named ‘Art of Divorce’ and is being held on April 7, 2018  at Sotheby’s in Sydney. It also happens to be his wedding anniversary and it would have been his 15th year. However, since the wedding did not work out, it is time to clear the mess. The auction is estimated to fetch about $2.3m (£1.6m). The actor says the sale is all about moving on in life. Crowe was married to singer Danielle Spencer and they were divorced in 2012.

The items on auction

The items on sale include an armor, a replica Roman Chariot, weapons and two life size horses from the movie Gladiator, neo-nazi boots from Romper Stomper, Master and Commander memorabilia and guitars. The other items include paintings by Sidney Nolan, Margaret Olley and by Australia’s old and modern artists.

The costly items would be a violin from the Far side of the World or a 1986 Grammy Award for Johnny Cash. For those who do not want to shell out a lot of money, there are items like a scarf, or one of his guitars or an old pair of shoes from State of Play.

There is a Mercedes Benz which was used on his wedding in 2003. There are a few watches, diamond rings, a leather jockstrap and midnight blue satin boxers from his movie The Cinderella Man. There is also a Shane Warne test jersey, a Leather sketchbook from 3.10 to Yuma and a cloth angel doll from The Sum of Us.

The horse which is from the movie Gladiator, costs around US$3000 and will be sold with a letter from Crowe himself stating his ownership. The estimate of the Mercedes is around US$20,000. There are seven rings from simple to expensive ones. The modest one is a simple gold one, a diamond encrusted one with a ruby in the center, a huge platinum ring and a diamond ring with a 5-13 carat yellow diamond. The estimated cost of rings are about US$77,000. There are 28 watches which includes a stainless steel one from Tiffany and company.  This was the first watch Crowe bought in the US after making the movie The Quick and the Dead. The cost of the watch is between US$600 to US$9,200. There is an expensive gold Rolex Cosmograph Daytona watch that is estimated to fetch around US$ 38,000. Another item includes a Flemish tapestry artwork that is estimated at US$ 27,000. However, the expensive painting that is estimated at US$61,400 is a 1921 landscape by a famous Australian painter named Penleigh Boyd.

The official poster shows Crowe holding up a cocktail glass and giving a wide grin as if raising a toast to a better future. The poster is titled ‘The Art of Divorce’.
