Musician Ricky Kej has yet again made India proud. He won his third Grammy Award on Monday for his album ‘Divine Tides’ with rock-legend Stewart Copeland at the 65th Annual Grammy Awards.
Musician Ricky Kej has yet again made India proud. He won his third Grammy Award on Monday for his album ‘Divine Tides’ with rock-legend Stewart Copeland at the 65th Annual Grammy Awards.
The Grammy Awards were held at the Crypto.com arena in Los Angeles, USA.
He was nominated in the Best Immersive Audio Album category. ‘Divine Tides’ is Ricky Kej’s collaborative project with Steve Copeland.
Steve Copeland is the founder and drummer of British rock group ‘The Police.’ He’s a five time Grammy Award winner.
The album contains 9 songs and 8 music videos and it is a tribute to the natural world.
The music videos were filmed in different parts of the world.
At the time of his nomination, Kej had said, "It is an absolute honour to be nominated a second time for a Grammy Award for our album 'Divine Tides'. Although my music is cross-cultural, it has always had strong Indian roots and I am extremely proud that Indian music has been recognized and shortlisted for this prestigious award by The Recording Academy. This nomination encourages me further and solidifies my belief to continue making music that can inspire positive social impact."
Ricky Kej is the youngest person from India to have won a Grammy Award. He is a music composer, producer and an environmentalist.
In 2015 he won a Grammy Award at the 57th Annual Grammy Awards for his album ‘Winds of Samsara’ in the Best New Age Album category.
He has created music for over 3,000 ad jingles and Kannada films. Though Kej’s music is cross-cultural, he has maintained that his music retains the aesthetic of his Indian roots. He moved to Bengaluru when he was eight years old and has lived there since. He completed his education in Bishop Cotton Boys’ School and his dentistry from Oxford Dental college in Bengaluru although he pursued an entirely different field which was music.
