A Hollywood neighbourhood is on edge as two vicious Pit Bulls attacked a small dog named Cutie on Sunday. Residents are complaining that the two wild Pit Bulls are often off-leash which can pose a threat to not only animals but humans too. One neighbour complained that she feels like she’s living in a prison in North 11th Court, Grant Street. The owner of Cutie- Mark Modzelewski said that his teenage son was walking her on Sunday when the Pit Bulls came charging at the family dog. The teenager couldn’t find much room to pick the dog as the Pit Bulls kept attacking her. Fortunately for Cutie, a City Furniture truck was passing by and they quickly pulled the dog into the truck. Cutie was left bitten around her eyes and chin. Modzelewski said. "I got a call from my older son saying, ‘The dog's been attacked by Pit Bulls. She's bleeding all over.’” Another witness said, “I just heard frantic screaming and at that point, we ran out to the front to see what's going on. The one, in particular, was very vicious, just going at it and just kept chasing it everywhere.” Other residents have complained about these dogs and the owner earlier. It’s being learned that not only dogs, but the Pit Bulls are also attacking children. They came charging at a nine-year-old girl Melina Beltrand while she was gardening. Luckily, her parents were around her to rescue her from the ferocious pets. Gary Biernacki who is the owner of the Pit Bulls, however, has a different story to tell. He said that the dogs are rarely off leash and that he doesn’t have any problems with his neighbours. When he was questioned about the attack he said, “I wouldn't say mauled. Ever hear of a dogfight?” he said in his defence. Hollywood Police Department and Broward County Animal Care are investigating the incident. They’ve pressed a couple of charges against the owner; one of them being a failure to maintain control over his dogs and not having them on leash. Till the matter is not thoroughly investigated and the guilty taken to task, the residents in North 11th Court, Grant Street and their pets continue to live in fear.
