Queen Of Rock ‘n’ Roll Tina Turner Passes Away At 83
Tina Turner was supposed to play "Shakti" in a film that was to be directed by Ismail Merchant
The ‘Queen of Rock ‘n’ Roll’ Tina Turner passed away on Wednesday at the age of 83.
She passed away after a long illness in her home in Kusnacht near Zurich, Switzerland.Her representative said that she died peacefully.
Flowers have already been placed on her star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Many celebs have posted heartwarming tributes for the iconic singer.
The singer was known for her spiky blonde hair, denim jackets, short skirts and high stilettos. She was known as the powerhouse of energy.
Born as Anna Mae Bullock, the singer hailed from a broken family and she described herself as tom boy.
She was introduced to the public as Tina in the 1960s with the single ‘A Fool In Love.’ She was discovered and mentored by singer Ike Turner in the initial years of her career.
After the release of ‘A Fool In Love’ Ike created ‘Ike and Tina Turner Revue’ The band toured a lot and released successful R&B singles.
Ike Turner became her musical partner and husband. The marriage, however, being abusive, did not last and the couple got divorced in 1978.
After breaking up with Ike, she began her career as a solo artist. She signed with Capitol Records in 1983. Her ‘Private Dancer’ album reached No.3 on the Billboard 200 and No.2 in the United Kingdom. After selling 10 million copies worldwide, the album became her most successful album.
The album’s second single ‘What’s Love Got To Do With It’ became No.1 on the Billboard Hot 100. She described love as a second hand emotion in this track.
The talented singer won three Grammys including Grammy Award for the record of the year for ‘What’s Love Got To Do With It’ at the 27th annual grammy awards.
In the year 2013 Tina married German Music Executive Erwin Bach. She then became a citizen of Switzerland.
After retiring however she battled various health problems like cancer, strokes and kidney failure. She experienced family tragedy when she lost two sons. She is survived by Erin Bach and two sons she adopted with Ike Turner.
The talented singer will always be remembered as a good soul with a unique voice and captivating stage performances.
