Qatar Reveals the Design of 2022 Football World Cup's Final Venue
Qatar has recently revealed the design of Lusail Stadium, which will be hosting the Final of World Cup 2022.
Qatar has recently revealed the design of the stadium, that is going to be the venue of the football World Cup final, as in the next four years, Qatar will be hosting the first ever World Cup to be played in the Middle East.
The Lusail Stadium, which has the seating capacity for 80,000 spectators was revealed in a big ceremony recently, which is attended by the country’s ruler Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani and other important dignitaries. It also included the United Nation’s Secretary General, Antonio Guterres.
The Head of Qatar’s World Cup organizing body, Hassan al Thawadi said the unveiling is a significant milestone, he added, “every milestone for us is always important. The announcement of the design of the stadium is very, very important, it’s the last stadium as well”.
During the Qatar World Cup, the Lusail Stadium is going to be the eighth and final venue. British architects Foster and Partners has made the design of the stadium, which is inspired by Arab craftsmanship.
The Lusail Stadium stands close to former home of Qatar’s founder, Sheikh Jassim bin Mohammed bin Thani al-Thani. The stadium is going to be raised, completely in the new city of Lusail, which is located at a distance of 15 KM north of the capital Doha.
The project cost of building the stadium is estimated to be $45 billion. It is said to be one of the largest infrastructure project undertaken by Qatar, the country is undergoing enormous transformation for the upcoming FIFA World Cup. The joint project of Qatar and China is set to finish in 2020.
At present Football’s governing body FIFA is considering whether to expand the tournament from 32 teams to 48. If the expansion occurs, the tournament games are likely to be shared among other countries in the region. Thawadi informed, “Ultimately the decision (on expansion) will be made with FIFA and Qatar”.
The 2022 FIFA World Cup is scheduled to be the 22nd edition of the FIFA World Cup, which is scheduled to take place in Qatar in 2022. The World Cup is going to be the first in the Arab World and also in the first Muslim majority country. This will be the first World Cup held in Asia since the 2002 tournament, which was organised in South Korea and Japan. The reigning World Cup champions are France.
