Priyanka Chopra was one of the top actors in Bollywood. She featured in superhit films like Don, Aitraaz, Barfi, Dostana and Peshwa Bajirao. PeeCee received numerous awards yet she decided to move to America for work. Why?
In conversation with Dax Shepherd on his podcast Armchair Expert the actress revealed the real reason for moving to America.
She said that she was not happy with the kind of work she was receiving in Bollywood. She had disagreements with people and they were not casting her.
“I was being pushed into a corner in the industry (Bollywood). I had people not casting me, I had beef with people, I am not good at playing that game so I kind of was tired of the politics and I said I needed a break”, she said.
Her manager Anjula Acharia then approached her. She asked Priyanka whether she would like to make a musical career in America. Even though she came to America for her musical journey, she eventually crafted a career in acting.
“This music thing gave me an opportunity to go into another part of the world, not crave for the movies I didn't want to get but I would require to schmooze certain clubs and cliques of people. It would require grovelling and I had worked a long time by then that I didn't feel like I wanted to do it.”
“So when this music thing came I was like ‘fu** it I'm going to America',” she said.
In America she appeared in the American thriller series ‘Quantico’ in 2015. Her first song ‘In My City’ was released in the US on 13 September 2012.
She began dating American singer Nick Jonas in May 2018. They got married in December 2018 and Priyanka officially changed her name to Priyanka Chopra Jonas.
PeeCee will soon be seen in Russo Brothers’ Citadel where she’s playing a spy. She will return to Hindi cinema with Farhan Akhtar’s Jee Le Zara featuring Alia Bhatt and Katrina Kaif.
