Parents to Sue AstraZeneca after Their Daughter Died Allegedly by Covishield Vaccine

Parents plan to sue Serum Institute after their daughter's alleged Covishield vaccine-related death. A national committee found insufficient evidence linking the vaccine to the death, while AstraZeneca admits its vaccine can cause rare blood clotting. Mr. Govindan criticizes Serum Institute's silence.

Parents to Sue AstraZeneca after Their Daughter Died Allegedly by Covishield Vaccine

Parents of a young girl who allegedly died after taking the Covishield shot are going to sue Serum Institute of India (SII).

Mr Venugopalan Govindan lost his twenty-year old daughter Karunya in July 2021 after she was administered with the vaccine.

The National committee set up stated that there was insufficient evidence to conclude that her death was caused due to the Covishield vaccine.

AstraZeneca, which is facing a lawsuit in the UK, said in court documents that the Covid 19 vaccine co-developed with the University of Oxford can cause Thrombosis with Thrombocytopenia Syndrome (TTS) which results in blood clots and low platelets in rare cases.

The lawsuit has been filed by Jamie Scott who suffered a permanent brain injury after receiving the AstraZeneca vaccine in April 2021.

Mr Govindan expressed that the admission came “too late” and after “so many lives have been lost.”

He mentioned in an online post that Serum Institute should have stopped the distribution of the vaccine after 15 European countries had restricted its usage following the death of people due to blood clots.

“If sufficient remedies aren't obtained, for the sake of justice and to prevent recurrence of this atrocity that was perpetrated in the name of public health, we will file fresh cases against any and all of those perpetrators because of whose actions the deaths of our children ensued. Eight of the victims' families have connected and I am echoing the common sentiments of all of us,” he said.

He explained that people were left to fend for themselves when adverse effects struck. Mr Govindan also called out Director Vivek Agnihotri for making a film on the development of covid vaccine during the pandemic and not shedding light on the real facts.

The AstraZeneca vaccine was manufactured in India by the Serum Institute of India (SII).

The Serum Institute of India (SII) has yet to give a statement on the matter.
