Padma Bhushan Awardee, Sharda Sinha Dies at 72: Ministers Visit AIIMS Delhi

Popular folk singer, Sharda Sinha dies at 72. She underwent treatment at the All India Institute of Medical Science, Delhi. The cause of her death is said to be refractory shock caused by Septicemia. Sharda Sinha has appeared in many popular folklore songs, including “Kartik Maas Ijoriya” and “Taar Bijli” from Gangs of Wasseypur 2.

She was also famous in Bhojpuri, Maithili, and Maghahi language songs, which most people appreciated. She was on ventilator support which led because of multiple myeloma which is a rare form of blood cancer. She was admitted to the cancer unit of the AIIMS hospital, Rotary Cancer Hospital.

“Noted folk singer, Smt. Sharda Sinha is admitted to AIIMS, New Delhi for treatment. Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi ji is continuously monitoring her condition and is in direct contact with the treating doctors. He has conveyed his prayers for her good health and speedy recovery through the treating team,” claimed AIIMS post.

Many ministers including Union and Food processing ministers had visited the artist when she was admitted to the hospital. Her songs specific to chhat puja will forever be remembered and cherished. She was the generation of folk singing and she was also regarded as the “Begum Akhter of Mithila”.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi also sent heartfelt condolences on such a demise event. India not only lost an artist but also lost the long legacies of culture and tradition. She dies on the first day of chhat celebration and just 4 days after her 72nd birthday. Her demise has affected many people, especially the ones who have grown up listening to her songs.
