Nurse Lucy Letby Turns Europe's Most Prolific Child Serial Killer in Modern History

Nurse Lucy Letby has been found guilty of murdering seven babies in a neonatal unit in the UK. She will face a whole life prison sentence according to a court in Manchester. 

She has also been convicted of trying to kill six other infants at the Countess of Chester Hospital between June 2015 and June 2016.

She deliberately forced fed babies, injected the babies with air and poisoned two infants with insulin. 

Some of the babies who survived suffered permanent brain injuries. 

The accused nurse broke into tears when the verdicts were read out. She told her legal team that she doesn’t want to attend her sentencing hearing in court; sparking outrage from the victims’ families. 

The trial which began in October last year, lasted for ten months. It is said to be the longest murder trial in the UK. 

The judge told the panel that it had “been a most distressing and upsetting case.” The panel were also excused from serving on juries in the future. 

Senior Crown Prosecutor Pascale Jones said the nurse “did her utmost to conceal her crimes, by varying the ways in which she repeatedly harmed babies in her care.”

The nurse was said to deceive her colleagues regarding the deteriorating health of the babies for which she was responsible. 

“She perverted her learning and weaponised her craft to inflict harm, grief and death”, she added. 

She especially took advantage of premature and new sick born babies. 

At work she was described as quiet and  confident. She enjoyed nights out with colleagues. She had a normal social life which made it all the more difficult to fathom that she was capable of such heinous crimes. Neighbours, family and friends are in utmost shock after learning about Lucy Letby’s horrific and evil crimes. 

 

The question that remains unanswered is why would a nurse who worked for the welfare of children would commit such evil crimes ?
