Naval Sub Hits Fisher Boat, 2 Out of 13 Fishermen Go Missing, Search Operations Begin
Indian Navy Submarine hits fisher boat, two go missing from 70 nautical miles ashore. Search and rescue operations are underway.
A fishing boat and an Indian Navy Submarine have collided off the Goa coast. Of the 13 fishermen in the boat, 11 have been rescued while 2 are believed to be missing from the coast. Indian Navy has begun a massive rescue and search operation where it has deployed close to 6 ships and aircraft to ensure the safety and fast rescue of the two fishermen.
The Fishing vessel, Marthoma collided with a Scorpene class submarine around 70 Nautical miles from Goa due to negligence, informed the Ministry of Defence. “Search and rescue efforts for the remaining two are underway and are being coordinated with Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre Mumbai (MRCC). Additional assets including from the Coast Guard have been diverted to the area to augment the efforts,"
Scorpene-class submarines are extremely harsh as they are used for various purposes, such as intelligence gathering, mine laying, and water-to-surface attacks. Moreover, this demonstrates the power of the Indian Naval forces. However, such an incident from such an advanced war submarine is not normal, and the naval teams are investigating the actual reason behind the issue.
Moreover, these submarines are extremely vulnerable as they can travel below the radar. Moreover, lower vibrations while travelling underwater, underwater stabilisation and guided missiles are some of the features that add more advantages to the submarine. The sub can further launch torpedoes or missiles from land and water without any issue.
