Coronavirus has reached the United Kingdom at such a level, that it has already infected its health minister and British MP Nadine Dorries, who is recently tested positive for coronavirus, raising concerns about the health status of other senior government officials.
In her statement, the Conservative MP said, “I can confirm I have tested positive for coronavirus and have been self-isolating at home”. She also added that the Health officials are also trying to find out where she contracted the virus and with whom she has been in touch with.
According to The Times, Nadine Dorries had been in touch with hundreds of people, including the British Prime Minister Boris Johnson.
It is a mere irony that Dorries played an instrumental role in crafting the legislation to the fight Coronavirus in the country and now she has become the first British politician to be diagnosed with COVID-19.
On Friday she fell ill after signing the document that declared coronavirus as a notifiable disease, according to which companies could now obtain insurance cover for the treatment.
Nadine referring to Britain’s National Health Service said, “I would like to thank the wonderful NHS staff that have provided me with advice and support”.
The shocking news would now call for the suspension of the parliament though the government is reluctant to do so in the middle of a health crisis.
Matt Hancock, senior Parliamentarian tweeted that he was “sorry to hear Nadine has tested positive for coronavirus. She has done the right thing by self-isolating at home, and both NHS and PHE staff have been brilliant. We all wish her well as she recovers”.
He also added, “We will do all we can to keep people safe, based on the best possible science.”
Rishi Sunak, the newly appointed Finance Minister of Britain is going to unveil the government’s first post Brexit budget this week and all are eyes are set on the government’s emergency measure to ease the economic pain due to the coronavirus outbreak.
In his budget, the Minister is expected to give the state-operated National Health Service with whatever support it needs to help combat the virus in the country, also providing the support for the businesses, which are now hit by cash flow issues.
The newly appointed Chief of Bank of England, Andrew Bailey has said that the UK-based companies now need help from the government as they face the disruption of supplies due to the virus.
In Britain so far six people have died from the virus and there are more than 370 confirmed cases in the country.
