Yet another ghastly murder rocks the posh area of Vasant Kunj in New Delhi. A 53-year-old fashion designer and her domestic help, 42, were found dead at her residence in Vasant Kunj on Wednesday night. The deceased woman has been identified as Mala Lakhani while her domestic help has been identified as Bahadur Singh.
Mala Lakhani was a designer who ran a boutique in the Green Park area and a couple of tailors worked under her. Three people are detained in connection with the case, the prime accused being one of Mala’s own tailor Rahul Anwar who worked under her. The three killers themselves confessed to the crime. Apparently, Rahul called her at night to show her some of his work following which he executed the murder along with two of his relatives.
When Mala’s servant heard her screaming, he came to her rescue however the assailants didn’t spare his life as well. They robbed her jewelry, cash and other valuables for about 45 minutes. Rahul along with the other culprits then escaped in Mala’s Hyundai car. Fearing that his family will be contacted and realizing that they would soon get caught, the killers surrendered themselves to the police at around 3 am.
After learning about the incident from the culprits themselves, the police arrived at the scene to discover their bodies lying in a pool of blood and the house was ransacked too. The designer was stabbed around ten times with a sharp-edged weapon.
What is surprising is that the Rahul Anwar worked with her for the past four years. Joint Commissioner of Police Ajay Choudhary said that the motive behind the murder is robbery. The accused will be taken to the courthouse and the police say that the case is open and shut as the accusers themselves have confessed to the crime.
