Mumbai Court Summons Sanjay Leela Bhansali, Alia Bhatt and Writer of Gangubai Kathiawadi

News agency ANI shared a tweet that read, “Mumbai's Mazgaon Court has summoned film Gangubai Kathiawadi's director Sanjay Leela Bhansali, actor Alia Bhatt & writer of the film on May 21, on plea of Babu Rawji Shah who claims to be the adopted son of Gangubai Kathiawadi & has stated in his plea that film tarnishes her image.”
The film is based on the book written by Hussain Zaidi titled ‘Mafia Queens of Mumbai’ and is directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali.
The three have been summoned by the Mumbai court before May 21. According to Baburao Shah the film shows many wrong facts and has depicted the family in wrong light.
Maharashtra Congress MLA Amin Patel has remarked about the film in the assembly saying, “Women there are excelling in different professions. The film's title also maligns the name of Kathiawad city. The name of the film should be changed.”
Gangubai Kathiawadi is one of Alia Bhatt’s biggest projects and she has received a positive response from audiences for her portrayal of Gangubai. The actress has taken great pains to fit into the character of Gangubai Kathiawadi, a role that she’s never played before.
The teaser of the film was shared by Alia on the occasion of Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s birthday with these words, “Gangubai Kathiawadi Teaser Happy Birthday Sir.. I can think of no better way to celebrate you and your birthday. Presenting a part of my heart & soul. Meet .. Gangu!” This film is Alia Bhatt’s first collaboration with Sanjay Leela Bhansali.
The film was scheduled to release on September 11, 2020 however it was delayed further due to the pandemic.
